Gangaur Ghat is on the banks of Lake Pichola in the old city of Udaipur (Rajasthan), which is a simple place for a common Udaipur resident and a historical complex for a tourist. But I found that this place has a lot of cultural significance in itself.

The Ghat is named after the Gangaur festival which is a Hindu festival. Gangaur Ghat Since I was staying at the City Palace, I walked to Gangaur Ghat. Yes, it is also easily accessible from Jagdish Temple.

Its three-gate entrance reflects traditional Rajasthani architecture. If you are on the banks of Lake Pichola, this Ghat offers spectacular views of the City Palace and the Taj Lake Palace, especially during sunrise and sunset, when the water shimmers with golden reflections.
Practical Information for Visitors
- Entry: Free
- Parking: Paid parking is available at the Ghat, though parking can be an issue due to narrow lanes.
- Best Time to Visit: Early morning for the peaceful atmosphere and aarti, or evening for the sunset and lively vibes.
- Cleanliness: The beauty of the ghat is spoiled by stray animals and garbage. It is in dire need of better maintenance and facilities like public toilets.
- Safety: The pier is generally safe but can be crowded during busy times.

Morning and evening are the best times to visit the ghat. In winters, it is bustling during the day as well, but in summers, the Ghat is almost empty during the day.
You will find tourists and locals feeding flocks of pigeons at the ghat or sitting on the ghat to enjoy some pleasant cool breeze or relaxing in some quiet corner. In short, the peaceful atmosphere of the ghat is a treat for all.
You will find peace here in the evening after exploring Udaipur. Across the lake, you will see a few boats moving in the serene atmosphere of Pichola Lake. All these things make the ghat attractive for photography in the evening.

The ghat is celebrated on Jal-Jhulni Gyaras (according to the Hindu calendar), which is the 11th day of both the waxing and waning moon phases. People told me that on this day, processions from across the city end here. During this time, music, rituals and community spirit are celebrated at the ghat.

Nearby Attractions and Activities
Gangaur Ghat is close to many major sites of old Udaipur. The famous Bagore Ki Haveli, a museum located just a few steps away, is also a must visit. If you get hungry, there are many cafes and restaurants around the area. I sipped a local delicacy for just ₹20 from a street vendor selling chuski (crushed ice) outside the gate, and there are many such local delicacies available for much cheaper.

As you step out of the ghat, you will find many people selling handmade stone figures and other souvenirs sold nearby. You can take them as a souvenir of your trip.
With a few drawbacks, Gangaur Ghat is a wonderful place that blends history, culture and natural beauty to create an unforgettable experience. Whether you are looking for a quiet moment by the lake, exploring the nearby heritage sites or want to participate in the city’s festivals, Gangaur Ghat offers something for everyone.
Don’t forget to grab a coffee from the nearby cafes, find your perfect spot and sit by the lake and enjoy the serene views.
