The United States needs families, even if they are illegal immigrants but married to American

Politics is going on about citizenship not only in India but all over the world. In the United States, President Biden has decided that he will not make illegal immigrants suffer the long wait to return home and reunite with their families if they are already married here. Under this scheme, 500,000 spouses of illegal immigrants and their 50,000 children will be included and benefit. This will enable married illegal immigrants in America to change their status.

Mr. Biden has presented his idea as pro-family, which is completely different from the policy of former President Donald Trump to break family ties. Earlier, generally, if an illegal immigrant married an American, he had to file a petition to adjust his status on the basis of his marriage, and first he had to go back to his country, as well as wait for a long process to stay in America. Which could take years in some situations.

By improving it, Mr. Biden is providing three things: a work permit to work legally, immediate temporary legal status known as “parole,” and a three-year period to petition for permanent legal status.

This plan is very good, especially for Mexican people. In fact, this will greatly benefit Mexican immigrants in America. According to a 2023 report, “What we know about unauthorized immigrants living in the U.S.” by the Pew Research Center, 39% of the total illegal immigrants in the US come from Mexico. So, is America’s relationship with Mexico improving? Or does America really need a strong family to strengthen itself again?

The US also needs families because the total fertility rate is low – the number of births per 1,000 women in 2023 was 1,616.5, below the replacement rate of 2,100 births needed for a stable population in the absence of immigration.
